El Amuleto Habitable

A garment conceived as a protective amulet, a bridge between reality and dreams.
This piece is a sculptural refuge that both contains and expands, evoking power and mysticism. It integrates the rational, protective structure of the masculine with the fluidity, creativity, and gentleness of the feminine. To wear it is to enter a ritual, a ceremonial act that reconnects the wearer with her essence, reminding her that true strength resides in intuition and sensitivity.

Within its weave lives a dialogue of dualities: soft-toned painting evokes reverie, peace, and tenderness, while the interplay of curves and straight lines highlights the geometry that unites the rational and the poetic. The Ciberlina silk fabric complements the work, flowing like a light cloud that conceals a solid, protective structure. This meeting of fragility and strength creates a unique balance between introspection and expression. More than a garment, it is a transformative amulet—an invitation to release ideas, cultivate inner peace, and manifest the spirit’s magic outwardly.

El Amuleto Habitable was created in collaboration by visual artist Francisca Sosa López and architect/designer María Alicia Espinoza, founder of the brand M.A. ESPINOZA. The work began as a creative project between two artist friends exploring the possibility of merging their artistic languages, stepping out of their comfort zones and finding a space where art and architecture intersect. This dialogue of perspectives gave shape to a soft, wearable, transportable armor. A manifestation of how design can embrace the soul.

Espinoza develops her pieces together with local master tailors, preserving traditional techniques within contemporary design. In this way, the project extends my own collaborations with artisans in Venezuela, weaving another layer into the conversation between tradition and contemporary practice. El Amuleto Habitable is only the beginning: nine more unique dresses will follow, each crafted from hand-painted fabric, each one a vessel for imagination, craft, and spirit.

This work was awarded the first place for Utilitarian Art in the CAF prize: Concurso Creadoras 2025

It is now part of the CAF Art Collection. And it is being shown in The National Gallery of Art in Caracas.
