Francisca Sosa López (b. Venezuela) is an artist based between London and Caracas. She received a BA in Fine Arts and Art History from the University of Colorado, Boulder (2015) and an MFA in Painting from the Slade School of Fine Arts, London (2020).

Working across painting, embroidery, sculpture, and installation, Sosa López explores materiality and process as forms of communication. Her practice centers on the idea and shifting definition of home, drawing on themes of migration, memory, femininity, and cultural contrast. Through abstraction, both visual and conceptual. She channels methods such as meditation, music, automatic drawing, and playful studio experimentation, often reconnecting with her childhood self to generate new work.

Sosa López has exhibited internationally and participated in projects with institutions including the British Museum and the V&A East Museum. She has received the Provost Purchase Prize for UCL East (2020) and the Adrien Carruther’s ACME Award (2020/21), was nominated for the Almacantar Studio Award (2020), and was selected as one of Saatchi Art’s Rising Stars (2020). Most recently, she won first place in the Utilitarian Art category of Concurso de Arte Contemporáneo Creadoras II (Caracas, 2025). Her work is held in the UCL East Collection and the CIFO Collection.
